Analysis: England's world cup campaign has officially gotten off to a horrific start. Right from the kick off it was apparent England still weren't quite able to perform in the big stage. They didn't try to play attacking and instead sat back and defended. This was what I had originally thought was a bad idea and it proved it right here. The key players such as Rooney and Gerrard played extremely poorly and they need to improve as the tournaments go on. Rooney just didn't manage to pass the ball very well and he also missed a couple of decent chances. Gerrard on the other hand did not do what a captain is expected to do. He often looked tired and never really looked like he was putting in effort. The performance was lackluster and improvements will be necessary for Uruguay.
